Frederick Joseph Allen
(1862-1968 circa)
Born on this day in 1862, Mr. Allen lived to be 104 years old and was said to be “meticulous in his dress and his high-top boots’! He was the first African American employed by the City of Saratoga Springs, in the Public Works Department and worked over the decades — right into his 90’s — in numerous capacities, including as an electrician, janitor, and plumber.
