HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our beloved namesake of our Lodge #609, Frederick Joseph Allen … and his Great-Granddaughter, Joy King, Mary A. Carter Temple #362’s Daughter of the Lodge, who share his birthday!
Born on this day in 1862, Mr. Allen lived to be 104 years old and was said to be “meticulous in his dress and his high-top boots’! He was the first African American employed by the City of Saratoga Springs, in the Public Works Department and worked over the decades -right into his 90’s - in numerous capacities, including as an electrician, janitor, and plumber.
